Your Concentric Rings of Security

The headquarters of the CIA isn’t hidden and anyone can easily find it. That is why the CIA has a lot of security and they are all parts of the concentric rings of security.
What are concentric rings of security?
Concentric rings of security is a layer after layer of defense around a certain object or place. And, as you pass through each “ring” or layer of defense the security level increases.
How can you apply these rings in your own life?
If you live in a single family home, the first ring of security might be a picket fence or other type of fence around the perimeter of your property. But if you happen to live in a walled and gated village, the first ring would be the gate. It must be opened first for someone to drive into the community.
A criminal can jump or climb easily over the gate or a fence if the village is unguarded. That is why the outer rings are usually the weakest. It is still a good idea though to have this to delay criminals.
An average house’s second concentric ring is the exterior of the house. The exterior is composed of the yard and the exterior walls of the house. A dog, motion alarms, and a security camera can be parts of your second ring. The alarm can be triggered by lights on motion sensors and sound sensors too. The second concentric ring includes locked front door (use solid deadbolt), closed garage door and all windows should be locked.
After the criminal passes through the first two layers, the third ring of security for your home is your “safe room.” This is where the entire household goes when the outer layers have been breached. A safe room must have a cell phone to call the police and, a firearm that can be used to protect your family?
Remember, as a criminal passes through each ring of security it’s supposed to get tougher for them to proceed and accomplish their goal. After the criminals have jumped over the wall and gate, have kicked in your front door and are poised to kick in your safe room door, where you and your family are hiding for your last stand, that room needs to be prepared to meet them with the ultimate force.
The final ring of security should include a firearm. A firearm gives you a better fighting chance and better odds of surviving. Remember to reinforce your “last” door. Use solid wood and a strong alloy for its lock. This will help you avoid using your firearm, which should be everyone’s goal, but always be ready to fight back, if necessary.
Now is a good time to give thought to your concentric rings of security and how you can apply it to your own home. Plan how many layers of defense you have, and how will you stop a criminal if they make it through every single layer and are about to harm you and your family.
