The best holster appropriate for a concealed carrier depends upon the guidelines and the different factors that should be considered. You may use the following guideline when choosing the holster that is best for you:

  • The holster should be able to fully cover the trigger guard of the gun.

  • The holster should provide adequate retention of the gun.

  • The holster should not have any obstruction for the barrel of the gun.

  • The holster should allow the carrier to carry the gun safely either loaded or unloaded.

If any of the mentioned guidelines is not provided, the holster may put the concealed carrier in danger when carrying a firearm.

Using the basic guidelines above, listed below are the holsters that are difficult to trust when it comes to concealed carrying:

  1. The Handgun Sling™

The Handgun Sling is a piece of elastic band with a coin and a rod. This type of holster does not provide adequate retention of the gun. The trigger is not protected at all. To use the Handgun Sling, you will need to put the rod inside the barrel of the gun. Therefore, this is not a safe method of carrying your firearm.

  1. Versacarry®

This holster was introduced in 2011 as the ZeroBulk Holster®. Despite its unique concept and design, there are still a lot of issues that concealed carriers must be concerned about. The yellow rod you can see in the image above provides retention on the gun by placing it inside the barrel, but the idea of having something that will block the barrel of your gun is not favorable. Aside from that, this holster does not have a trigger protection. The only time it is safe for you to carry with this holster is when your firearm is unloaded.

  1. Clipdraw

This is just a metal clip that you can attach to the back of the gun using screws. Like pen clips, they serve to hold the gun in place just like in the picture above. If you want to use this for your gun, then you should consider having a trigger guard. We can clearly see that the Versacarry® does not cover the firearm at all. This is really a scary method of carrying.

  1. ZeroCarry®

This is another type of holster that will require you to put something inside the barrel of the gun. It is important to note that the only things that should pass the gun’s barrel are the bullets and cleaning rod. With a ZeroCarry®, the trigger of the firearm is not protected and there is no adequate retention of the gun.

When choosing the right type of holster, one of the main priorities we should have is the safety of that type of holster. While the introduction of these types of holsters are bringing us to an innovation towards the minimalist approach, we should still consider how safe we are with how we carry our firearms.

The inventors of these products might have some good points on why they came up with such, but it seems like there are lots of issues concerning the safety of the carriers that they forgot to deal with.
