Avoid Revealing Your CCW
It was Saturday morning, a lazy day in my life. I wake up early, ran and came home after that, settling down for a cup of coffee and check the news. The writer’s life contains very few days off, so I make it a point to enjoy.
An article caught my attention, bringing me back into work-mode. Vladimir Putin, a Russian politico walks with a distinctive and asymmetrical gate, there’s been a lot of conjecture. Some experts suggested an explanation: He swings his right arm far less than his left because of his KGB weapons training. The article gave a suggestion, “The manual, it’s translated into Dutch, says keep their weapons in their right hand and close to their chest, move forward with one side, usually it’s left, then turn somewhat in the direction of the movement.”
Whether it’s true or not is something that only God and Vladimir know, but it made me think. Many people regularly carry concealed, what are the signs that give us away? I don’t have time to observe everyone, but, I can look at the existing research, done by police departments. They look for the following:
Gait or Movement Asymmetrical.
This is number one of the list. People with a CCW shorten both the stride and arm swing, weapon side of their body.
Body Shifting.
I have trained with doing this, when you are approached by another person, turn the weapons side away in order to protect it, and you draw unobstructed.
Adjusting the weapon.
Everyone is guilty for this degree. There’s a possibility, especially the new one, they subconsciously check their weapon with a quick adjustment.
Bulges in clothing/printing.
One of the common mistakes and self explanatory.
Clothing.
Clothing should match the weather conditions.

Suspicious Behavior
According to my police sources, being nervous or having shifty behavior like reaching for the weapon is one way of showing up on their radar.
There’s a lot more,so let me know what you’ve noticed. The real question for us is, “What can we do about it?” There’s a few solutions, they all come down to the two keys. Practice and training, find the right carry system, try it and trust it. Practice on how to carry and draw until it is second nature. Always keep your permit, and stay on the right side of the law. Maintain your awareness, movements and of course, your attitude. Small intentions always goes a very long way.
