Breaking News: Obama Accused of Being Interested In Engaging in Anti-Gun Theatrics

January 21, 2016 by Online Carry Training

“I am putting the department on notice that this subcommittee will take no part in undermining the Constitution and the rights it protects, I believe that he (Obama) is more interested in grandstanding and engaging in anti-gun theatrics than actually doing the work necessary to protect this country.”  – Senator Richard Shelby.

Senator Shelby said that today, January 20th, 2016, as Attorney General Loretta Lynch testified before Senate appropriations committee. The committee oversees funding for the Justice Department. In accordance with the President’s new executive actions, the Justice Department budget for 2017 will need millions of dollars to implement these new actions.

Critics have said Obama’s proposals will fail to actually address gun violence and have accused the President of attempting to draw attention away from his failed foreign policy measures.

The executive actions making a gun dealer description even vaguer, and easier to prosecute terms is a subject of much contention. With the attorney general saying someone selling one or two guns could make someone a dealer, or selling a firearm with the factory packaging could turn someone into a dealer. Personally, unless the box is cardboard, I keep it. This originally packaging being a plastic container that conveniently fits my firearms, magazines, manuals, and allows for simple and safe transport of the firearm. This plastic box is useless to me when I sell the firearm, so why wouldn’t I include it with the sale? Am I now a gun dealer? If I sell the box for hundreds of dollars and include a free gun? Am I a gun box dealer? Maybe at the end of this testimony, we will have some answers to these questions as Senator Shelby wants to ‘air it out for the American people.’

“I think it’s high time to fight back, to not be on the defensive but be on offensive.” Senator Shelby said regarding his opposition on the executive actions.

Senator Shelby is not opposed to every action. The Senator had said he was open to the idea of the NICS check system being opened 24 hours, 7 days a week. In that same letter, he said,

“If the President and you can clearly demonstrate that his new executive actions will, in fact, aid in the protection of the American people in a manner that respects our constitutionally protected Second Amendment rights, I promise to give full consideration to these facts and proposals,” Shelby wrote. “Let me be clear: I will not sit idly by and allow the Department to implement unlawful unconstitutional actions.”

I’m glad to see a 2A politician fighting this actions, and being brazen in doing so. The American people are better armed now more than ever, and according to polls support for gun control in lower than ever. Taking a trick from Rebel Media, I did a quick search on concealed carry in the United States and even anti-gun states like California has seen a spike in google searches for the term. In Washington State, some agencies in charge of issuing concealed carry permits are so swamped they are turning people away.

Senator Shelby is right, we need to go on the offensive.
