Gun Safety – Handle all Firearms as if they are Loaded, All the Time
Recently a man in Independence Township, Michigan attempted to give his girlfriend a lesson in gun safety when they had been drinking. In order to demonstrate that unloaded handguns were safe he took three handguns and one by one put them to his head and pulled the trigger, the third handgun fired and killed the man instantly. When you have a concealed carry permit or own firearms you must be responsible for their safety and correct handling. Handling firearms while under the influence of alcohol is irresponsible and the impaired judgment will result in death of you or your loved one. Don’t live your life with the guilt of causing unintentional death, follow proper gun safety rules every time you handle, shoot or store your firearm:
Only point a gun at a target that you intend to shoot, if you are not actively firing keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and know what is behind your target before you shoot.
Handle all firearms as if they are loaded, when you are handed a firearm always inspect the chamber yourself to verify that it is unloaded.
Alcohol, prescription medications and guns do not mix; if you consume alcohol or take medication then your firearms should be stored, unloaded and unavailable.
Always operate the gun as it is intended, use the correct ammunition, do not make modifications and check the barrel for obstructions.
When holding a firearm keep your finger off the trigger until you intend to fire.
These gun safety basics are not optional; they are required to be a responsible and safe gun owner. If you have guns in your household then follow these rules to protect you and your family from injury.
