Items for your Survival Bag

August 8, 2013 by Online Carry Training

Everyone should have a survival bag on their person, in their car and/or in their home.  But, what kind of survival bag should you have and what should you put in it?  A lot of that depends upon your lifestyle and the things you will need for your everyday life and your extracurricular activities.

For the basics to help prepare in case of getting stuck somewhere in your car, some of the great things to have in your survival bag are warm clothing, water, food, bandages and flashlight.  Obviously there are more things that you might want to include, but those are some of the big essentials.

For the home, you will want to have a survival bag in case of floods, fire, earthquakes, tornados or other disasters.  Food and water are obvious essentials; however, you may also want to include water purifiers in case you run out of your stored water so that you can sterilize any other water you find.  Blankets and changes of clothing are important as well as a fully packed first aid kit, flashlight and radio with back up batteries, matches, can opener and perhaps even a gun to protect yourself and your family.

For adventures or vacations you will need a variety of things for your survival bag. Aside from the things listed above, other things include a compass, shelter such as a waterproof tent, navigation equipment so that you know what is going on with the weather, a strobe light to help attract attention so that rescuers can find you, thick and strong boots for hiking and protecting against poisonous plants and snakes and other dangers. It is a very good idea to make sure that you have all of your survival equipment protected by water proof bags and packages.  Lighters and matches are important for fires to cook and to stay warm.  A flare gun can also be helpful to signal for health. Another thing a lot of people don’t think about taking is a loud, florescent whistle that can be seen and heard from a distance.

One of the most important things for your survival back if you are out camping, hiking, skydiving or whatever, is to have a plan first.  Make sure you map out the area where you plan to go and then be sure to research it for any changes and dangers.  Always tell others where you will be going, what time you will be leaving and returning, the path you will be taking and what you are driving.  All of these things are necessary to make sure that you stay safe and if trouble arises you will be better prepared to survive until you can get rescued.
