The new era of the gun culture and CCW
Times are changing and doing so very rapidly, especially when it comes to gun control and gun owners. In just the past couple of decades, the stereotype of gun owners has changed drastically. It used to be that when people thought of gun owners they either envisioned gang members or ‘backwoods’ hillbillies and hunters. That isn’t the case anymore as more and more people from different backgrounds, social statuses and other factors have changed and more and more of these people have joined the ranks of being a gun owner or a CCW holder.
A new generation of gun owners has emerged and just in time as America is now facing the threat of losing their right to bear arms, the Second Amendment. No longer are gun owners thought of as guys driving beat up trucks with a rifle rack in the back window, or hunters with duck whistles. Now people that own guns have diversified and you are as likely to find a ‘backwoods’ gun owner as you are the CEO of a large corporation or a housewife even.
This, according to many pro-gun advocates, is actually a good thing and is in good timing. Now that the government is looking at the possibility of taking away American’s right to bear arms, there are a lot more people and therefore a lot more influence and power towards keeping guns for the people to protect themselves and their homes and loved ones.
If this would have happened fifty years ago, the people might not have had a chance in fighting against this. Yet today, more and more people are buying and carrying guns, and these new people carry influence as well. The government may want to take away our right to bear arms with the hope that it will deter gun related violence, but they are also aware of how important public opinion is of them, especially during election time. Now the government may wish to do what they want, but they can’t ignore what the people want as well, especially when there are so many of them of the same mind.
People today are realizing that a gun isn’t just for sport anymore, it is almost a necessity – and to many it is a necessity – to be able to protect their family. Fight fire with fire and since so many home invasions and other crimes are committed by people with guns, it only seems fair to allow the people to protect themselves in the same manner.
