What Is A "Cold Bore" Shot?

“Cold Bore,” with is that an ice hole ? Is it a hole created by an ice bullet or just a cold hole? Wikipedia doesn’t even have an article for it.

Generally, cold bore is simply the first shot from a sniper rifle with a clean barrel. It is extremely difficult to anticipate where to shot will go. Only after the first shot can you adjust your DOPE (Data On Previous Engagement). After the cold bore shot, the barrel becomes ” dirty.” It has residue that affects the bullet’s flight path.

Admit it, nobody likes to miss a shot or to shoot poorly. That’s why people in the shooting range have you warm up rounds before they attempt more difficult shooting drills. In an actual gun fight, there are no warm-ups. It is helpful to include cold bore shooting to your regular shooting drills.

The first drill is to draw and shoot from concealment. Aim at the center of the target’s mass within two seconds or less. Doing this in a seven to 10-yard line. Two newbies, you can attempt it at a slower pace. If you perform poorly on this drill that means you have to practice more. Concentrate on your draw and trigger control.

In an emergency, your cold bore shooting skills could be decisive in a life and death situation. You have to be confident that you are well trained in your cold bore shooting skill.

For the more experienced shooter, you may want to crank your drill up a bit. Try to reduce two seconds to one to complete the full set of actions, from drawing to firing and going for headshots. Add challenge to it by moving back and forth, left to right while hitting your target.
