There are several reasons people of all ages and walks of life decide to concealed carry a weapon. Personal protection is certainly at the top of the list.

Many feel a sense of comfort and safety when carrying a concealed weapon.

Of necessity you may carry a weapon. Perhaps you are in a law enforcement or security career and you must carry as part of your job description.

Maybe you are transporting valuable items and your employer or client expects you to carry a handgun.

Reading the newspapers or watching the nightly news is often sufficient motivation for even die-hard optimists to go out and buy a gun.

Those who have had personal experience with muggings, car jackings, home invasions, property damage or been threatened by an armed assailant feel a compulsion to arm themselves against future violence. It’s a proven fact, attackers prey on the weak and helpless. Many women decide to concealed carry to level the playing field. With a weapon, they feel less helpless, more ready to take on the world.

Many who decide to concealed carry do so to protect their family and/or their property. Sure! If you hear a prowler, the first thing you should do is dial 911. But, there’s seldom a police car just down the block. In the meantime, that burglar could do serious damage to your home or your family. Often a gun deters the robber from hanging around. No matter how quick response time is, there’s still that crucial space of time before the police arrive. You need quick access to your gun for it to be practical in situations like this.

While it may not be the foremost reason for you to concealed carry, exercising your second amendment right to bear arms often factors into personal decisions to own a weapon. Some gun supporters have argued that if this right is not exercised, it could disappear.

When you concealed carry you begin to develop a heightened awareness of the people and things around you. This often keeps you out of dangerous situations and away from people you should not be associating with. But improved situational awareness makes to more effective at work, with your family, and in the community. It’s almost a sixth sense about how people around you perceive you.

Accuracy of shooting has become a growing hobby for people of both genders and all ages. Like archery, dart, horseshoes and other accuracy sports, there is a growing interest in shooting competitions. Many ranges now have defensive pistol classes and competitions. It’s a great way to meet new people. At the same time, you are honing your skills and becoming increasingly comfortable with carrying and shooting your weapon.

There’s a certain level of confidence and poise that comes with being able to use your concealed carry weapon. This confidence translates to being able to shoot your gun if you  need to and knowing you can and will rise to the occasion if the situation demands it. But this attitude also shows up in confidence at work and in the community. When you feel up to a task it shows in your ability to lead, to communicate, to be an effective team member.
